ASK AN EXPERT:

How to get red-carpet-ready skin at home
alt text

With the plethora of glow enhancing products on the market from bronzers and illuminator to tints and powders it's hard to know what to use and what actually works (instead of looking like a shiny disco ball). Here we ask celebrity make-up artist Nigel Stanislaus his top tips to achieving glowing skin at-home:

WHAT'S YOUR SECRET 'GLOW-FACTOR' INGREDIENT?

Stanislaus explains that the 'glow' often comes from within. It's all about skincare and skin prep before you actually even start with foundation and illuminators. The night before a big event Nigel likes to prep his client's skin by drenching it in an active serum – such as vitamin C – we're loving: the botanically enriched firming and brightening combo in Endota New Age Potent Brightening Serum and then layering it with the peptide packed Dr. Lewinn's Private Formula Advanced Night Cream. After cleansing the next morning, he locks in moisture even deeper by applying a sheet face mask. We can't go past the hydration hit you get with the Sampar H20 Emergency Mask. When it finally comes to glow-y make-up application he likes to keep it very simple and let the skin do the talking. Before applying make-up, he starts with a liquid strobe cream such as Kora Organics Rose Quartz Luminizer in a gold or peach shade, applying it to the outer side of your cheeks. He warns against shimmer powder (contrary to the internet) as he "feels it contracts the authenticity of the 'glow' and makes the skin look dusty." He explains that the end result should look like you've spent the day at a luxury spa.

CAN I STILL HAVE A GLOWING COMPLEXION BUT CHOOSE A FULL COVERAGE BASE?

"Yes, you can, the trick is to generously moisturise your complexion prior," Stanislaus explains. He likes to apply a rich cream, balm such as Natio Glow Skin Brightening Face Balm or even pat in a facial mist like Kora Calming Lavender Mist to revive skin prior to foundation. "Remember, full coverage doesn't mean a heavy hand. It just means you have the option of better coverage only in areas that need some help," he warns. Instead recommending applying a small amount to the centre of your face and working it outwards. For a flawless yet dewy glow Velvet Concept Summer Skin Foundation is a must-try.
