Navigating the beauty floor can be overwhelming at times. Especially with the conflicting advice we're given in the quest for beautiful skin. Here, we ask expert beauty therapist Diandra Politano and owner of Diandra Politano Salon in Sydney, NSW, all about facial oils.
Facial oils provide the ultimate hydration for your complexion. Politano explains that, "Our skin cells function better when well hydrated. Facial oils are that extra step [required] in your routine to ensure your skin is well hydrated, regulated and balanced."
Often packed to the brim with essential nutrients, fatty acids and antioxidants. They work to protect and repair your skin barrier which in turn helps your skin absorb other products.
"Every oil is made up of different ingredients that target different concerns. It is so important you get the correct one for your skin type and condition," Politano warns. Generally dry skin types lap up oils, and contrary to what you may think about oily and breakout prone skins - oils can be greatly beneficial too. Politano suggests considering options with ingredients such as jojoba, geranium or tea tree that won't sit on the surface of your skin and clog pores.
Apply 3-4 drops into the palms of your hands and rub them together to activate the ingredients. Then gently press (not rub) the product into your skin. Apply them underneath your moisturiser (but over your serum) for maximum hydration.
