Slick, curly or textured, here are three (super easy) ways to wear a ponytail now.

It's one of the most versatile hairstyles around, but you can upgrade your go-to ponytail with a few simple tweaks.

This is the classic ponytail that works for any time of day, and for any occasion. Before blow-drying, prep hair with a heat protector, which helps shield hair from the damaging effects of styling tools, then blow-dry smooth. Determine where your ponytail will sit – at the crown, in line with the tops of the ears, or at the nape of the neck – and whether you’d like a part, and then use a comb to slick hair back and secure. Finish with hairspray, like John Frieda Frizz Ease Moisture Barrier Hairspray, which creates a barrier to keep humidity out so strands stay smooth and frizz-free.

Curls are cool, so instead of flat ironing your hair into submission, embrace what you’ve got. On damp hair, apply a curl-enhancing product, either a mousse (try Sebastian Mousse Forte, which enhances curls and offers UV protection) or spray (John Frieda Frizz Ease Dream Curls Curl Perfecting Spray, is a better option for finer hair), and dry using a diffuser attachment on your hairdryer, or allow to air-dry. Then use your fingers to gently and loosely rake hair back (keep some volume at the crown) and secure your ponytail so it aligns with the tops of your ears.

Waves can work two ways: a matte, ropy texture imparts that relaxed, beachy vibe (get it by misting John Frieda Beach Blond Ocean Waves Texturising Spray through damp hair and tousling with fingers), while shiny waves are slightly more polished (Sebastian Shine Shaker offers flexible texture and luminous shine). Use fingers to pull hair back, allowing strands around the hairline to come loose for an effortless finish.
