An inspirational quote circulated our office a while back, which went: “My optimism wears heavy boots and is loud.” It’s a wonderfully poetic quote by Henry Rollins, and this winter, it might be particularly apt.
Because once again, the 70s theme is in full force, which means that high boots are back! Or at least they’re not going anywhere anytime soon.
At their peak in the early 1970s, there was a boot for just about every occasion, in a range of colours, heights and styles. There was the crinkle boot, the granny boot that laced right up to the knee, the stretch boot and the go-go boot.
The go-go boot was by far the most popular style, and its knee-length, squared-toed, block heel features are the bedrock of the popular knee-high boots set to take centre stage in 2019.
This winter will feature both muted, sultry jewel colours and suede (see our winter coats section) so a suede navy boot might be the answer for all your winter outfit needs.
Classic knee-high boots are comfortable and stylish, thanks in part to its low stacked heel and side zip fastening. It also helps that suede and navy are a stunning combination.
These go-go styled boots are so versatile but will look especially great worn over leggings or paired with a dress or skirt. Try a beautiful ponte skirt with a hint of vintage inspiration and a lovely high neck sweater, which features gorgeous wide sleeve detailing.
With a low stacked heel, comfortable fit and durable leather fabrication, here’s another timeless knee-high boot style, sure to be a staple in your winter wardrobe for years to come.
Both the black and the tan colour options work well with so many of this season’s trends, such as a corduroy mini skirt or a vintage shaggy coat.
We’re big fans of pairing them with a longline blazer because it gives you the option to either dress down with a tee and a pair of jeans or up with a more formal dress.
However, for a fashionable take, try a chic cardi coat, which ticks multiple boxes from this year’s winter trends…the check pattern, open front and warm, insulating material to name a few.

Of course, this winter isn’t just about knee-high boots. Whether you simply prefer ankle boots or you want the year-round versatility that they offer, there are plenty of trendy ankle boot styles too.
Ankle boots in black or brown leather are a versatile choice. Add to this the plush lining and sturdy block heel many of them have, and you’ll get comfort as well as style.
What’s more, they work with just about any outfit. This winter, we’d match them with ultra-in signature slim pants in black colour - you’ll love their gorgeous look and flattering fit - and a classic tie neck blouse for all-hours style.
Last but not least, if you’re a fan of wide-fit boots, we recommend getting your feet into a pair with a trendy textile suede finish. For even more flexibility, get them in tan colouring to wear them with virtually everything (dresses, jeans, skirts, you name it), and nice side buckle detailing.
While we love wearing them with skinny jeans and a monotone shirt to get that street-chic look, the beauty of a tan or beige wide-fit ankle boot is that they elevate almost any winter clothing combination.
For this reason, we’ve chosen to match them with a floral wrap dress, which exudes a summery elegance even on the darkest of days. We just love the long, velvety feel, v-neck cut that direct the eye towards the boots.
