Choosing the perfect pair of sunglasses can be a challenge.

After all, as with other accessories, you want your sunglasses to complement a range of different outfits – something that works for the beach, a lunchtime meeting, the weekend outing and everything in between.

It can be easy to be swayed but the latest street style, but as sunnies are a year-round staple, it’s a good idea to choose a style that will work easily for a variety of occasions. That being said, with so many affordable sunglasses available, it is so easily possible to pick up a few pairs with varying frame and lense styles, shapes and colours to go with whatever look you want to rock.

Sunglasses are a great way to reflect your personality and personal style, but, of course, sunglasses are not just about style. They also serve the vital job of protecting your peepers from the harsh UV rays of the sun. It’s important to remember that choosing high quality lenses should certainly take precedent over fashion. Ezibuy’s range this year provides polarized and non polarized (see below for more information about what polarized means!) that comply with Australian and New Zealand standards. All of our sunglasses are a category 3 which means they provide a good level of UV reduction, as well as a high level of sun glare reduction.

While online shopping opens up a world of opportunities when it comes to choosing a new pair, it doesn’t give you the luxury of trying different styles, shapes and colours. When you’re in-store trying on new shades, it can be hard to get the right perspective to really know what the sunglasses look like on your face. Of course, you can always ask someone to assist, but it can be helpful to go along with a few guidelines to help you feel confident in picking out the perfect pair. If online shopping is the easiest option for you, then these tips will help you filter through the many styles available.

How to choose the right sunglasses for your face shape: First things first, you need to consider your face shape to know that frame will work best.

● Oval: For oval shaped faces, it’s best to go for round frames. Glasses with a brow bar over the top of the lenses will add a bit of structure on the face, and contrast with the vertical

● Round: Most ladies with round faces are aiming to create a longer shape. Cat-eye styles draw cheekbones up and look for frames that are equal to, or slightly wider than the widest part of your face. Avoid round frames, for obvious reasons, and go for straight or angular frames that create an elongated and more angular look.

● Square: Sunglasses with a straight top and curved bottom are ideal for your face shape to reduce strong angles. Semi-rimless styles will also help to balance your face by making your jawline appear softer and add a little length.

● Heart: Heart-shaped faces generally have narrow chins, so to create contrast with this, try structured square frames.

● Rectangular: If your aim is to widen or shorten a long and angular face, frames with horizontal lines will help. Rounder frames will help to balance out a narrow chin or high-set forehead.

Remember: While large frames can have you feeling an air of celebrity-chic, they aren’t always right for everyone. The size of your sunnies should be proportional to the size of your face, otherwise they can look a bit ridiculous! The right size and shape will draw attention away from prominent features and complement your face perfectly.

What does Polarized even mean?

Normal sunglasses provide basic protection against both vertical and horizontal UV rays. However, they don’t diminish the glare from reflected horizontal rays. Polarized glasses have a built-in, laminated filter that permits only vertical light rays to pass through, and almost totally blocks horizontal rays to eliminate glares. This is most noticeable when boating or fishing, since you can suddenly see through the surface, which was previously clouded by the reflections from the sun and sky above.

A polarized lens offers the following advantages over non-polarized lenses:

● Increases visual comfort. Since your eyes aren’t constantly challenged by glare, it is easier to view objects in bright conditions.

● Enhances clarity of vision and contrast for ground level objects and for seeing into water.

● Reduces eyestrain.

On the reverse polarized lenses make it difficult to view LCD screens. They create the effect of making the images on the screen disappear at certain angles. Pilots or operators of heavy machines are discouraged and often prohibited from using polarized lenses. You might have difficulty operating an ATM with polarized glasses.

Don’t be afraid to experiment with sunglasses. It can be easy to revert to simple frames, but often a bold colour or a daring new shape will help you feel glam, edgy and fashionable, without having to update your whole wardrobe.
