It’s the dead of winter and to be honest, I’m ready for it to be over. I’m typing this from my living room, wearing gloves, for goodness’ sake. The weather’s dull, I’m feeling dull. I’ve been thinking about how I can spice up my wardrobe and inject some life back into it, and I think I’ve found the answer: deep, lush green. Doesn’t green say spring, promise, life to you?
It turns out there’s not a lot of green in my wardrobe, but luckily there is a lot of green in my nail polish collection. Green may not be the first colour you think of to put on your nails, but the range of shades available could surprise you. How about a glossy forest green – almost black? For something more subtle, think of a muted taupe with green leanings. Or a bright, sunny jade?
No one has time to sit down and change up their nail colour several times a week – don’t be ridiculous! So if you’re painting your nails on a Sunday night, or whenever you can snatch a quiet moment, you want it to last a good amount of time. As part of that, you don’t want to be stressing about what outfit is going to match your nails. The great thing about green is it’s really versatile in what you can pair it with.
In the outfit above I’ve snuck some green in with the khaki Emerge Linen Pants, paired with this beautiful cream Grace Hill Cashmere blend V neck. I’d definitely put khaki in the ‘green’ colour family, but it’s still a neutral. You can jazz it up with a pop of colour, like with this Pop Art Scarf. I really like lightweight scarves like this, because they’re functional in the winter months but are light enough to wear as you transition into spring as well. The coral pattern is super fun! With this outfit, I’d go for a deep, forest green on my nails. Tip: if you’re worried about pulling off dark nail colours, they look most sophisticated on tidy, rounded nails which end just at the tip of your finger. Practical, too!
That coral accent on the Pop Art Scarf inspired me to think about pairing a bolder, jade green on the nails with coral. It says ‘tropical’ without making you look like you belong on a cruise in the Pacific! I really like these Emerge Skimmer pants, which come in a range of bright colours – you can dress them up with a nice pair of heels like these Leather Ankle Strap Heels, or toss them on with a plain t-shirt and some sneakers on busy days.
If you’re going to sneak those bright shades into your outfit, it’s best to keep the rest neutral.
