The shirt dress is definitely one of my favourite styles of dress – they are classic, and comfortable, but can also be dressed up and down.
When I was writing THIS post a few weeks ago, I spied a gorgeous shirt dress from Grace Hill – well it went straight into my shopping cart and arrived on my door step the very next day!
I love the versatility in a shirt dress – dress it down with sandals or trainers like so……

Or wear it to work (or for play) with some heels or ankle booties!
The long sleeve versions are great too – pull them out now for extra sun protection, like this little number from Emerge.

The lightweight fabric makes it nice and cool to wear in the warmer months, but you could also layer it with some merino underneath, plus tights and boots.
Now in terms of if they suit you or not, most styles will suit most people, but there are a few things to look out for;
- If you have a bust, make sure the buttons aren’t strained – try going up a size (you can still tie it in at the waist to give shape)
- If it feels too long, belt it and puff the top half over the belt a little to left the length
- If it has long sleeves, try rolling the sleeves up if it feels like the style is swamping you (or just if you want a more casual look)
- If you are petite, look for a style that is not too fussy (straight fit, not too much pattern) otherwise you might risk it swamping your frame
