If you’re anything like us, you’ll love that ponti fashion continues to appear everywhere in stores and online shopping sites.
Why? Because it’s just so darn comfortable! We delve into ponti fashion…
What is point of ponte?
Even if you don’t recognise the name ponte (or ponti, pronounced pon-tee), it’s likely that you will recognise this figure-friendly fabric with a forgiving stretch.
Ponte knit is a combination of rayon, polyester and spandex. The thick, double-knit fabric provides a two-way stretch; it moulds to your body shape while providing a smooth and streamlined silhouette. Really, what more could you ask for when it comes to more form-fitting clothes? Also, because of its thickness, it also provides great structure in styles with a bit more drape, which means we’re also regularly seeing it in dresses and tops.
Why else do we love it? Because it’s machine washable and you don’t need to whip out the iron every time you want to wear your ponte piece. The tightly woven fabric also holds its shape and appearance for a long time without colour fading, so is a great staple investment piece for your wardrobe.
Who is the ponte look for?
The great thing about ponte pieces is that it can work for just about any body shape. If you’re generally scared of clingy clothing, ponte is definitely a fabric that you’ll want to try. Because of the thicker fabric, the fit is more forgiving and will lift and pull in all the right places!
Ponte fabric is designed to create a streamlined look, so shouldn’t be worn loose and baggy. In saying that, ponte works great as a contrast piece. For example, ponte pants (a great alternative to leggings) with a soft and floaty tunic or long-line top. This means you can make ponte clothing work for you to accent your assets and draw attention away from the bits you’d rather not showcase.
PONTI FASHION
So where does it work best?
Ponte first started popping back up on our fashion radar as pants, but since then we’ve seen the trend embraced across many wardrobe pieces. Here’s where we love to pull a bit of ponte into our outfits:
The ponte dress
As mentioned, a ponte dress is going to skim those bits that we don’t want to draw attention to, and flatter our figure in all the right places by giving support and structure. You’ll often see ponte fabric used in block panelling, creating a striking slimming silhouette that is perfect for office wear, or formal wear.
The ponte pant
A versatile pair of ponte pants will quickly become your wardrobe go-to. Providing more coverage than standard leggings but without the bulk of trousers, ponte pants are a great option to pair with a longer top or tunic. Because they are thicker than leggings, you can get away with a slightly shorter upper piece without feeling too exposed!
The ponte skirt
A pencil ponte skirt is a gorgeous option for your workplace wardrobe. It’s flattering, works well with shirts or more structured tops and jackets, and the fabric maintains a tidy appearance. What’s more – it’s really comfortable. After all, if you’re sitting at a desk all day, or dashing between meetings, you want something with a bit of stretch to offer comfort and a less restrictive feel throughout the day.
So there you have it, comfort doesn’t just have to be about loose fitting clothes! It looks as though the smooth lines of ponte pieces are proving too popular to be disappearing from clothing stores anytime soon. A ponte purchase is one that you will be sure not to regret!
