So, now that you’ve mastered the contour (thanks YouTube!) and your brows are sufficiently fuller, where are we going next for makeup?
The year 2016 certainly brought with it some interesting twists, not least of all when came to make-up and fashion. Like always, what’s hot and what’s not shifts in tune with the season. Stay one-step-ahead of the social media mavens and get the low-down here on the hottest makeup trends for Autumn-Winter.
Lips
We’ve been bold, we’ve been matte, we’ve been big, so what’s on everyone’s lips this season? Those of you who prefer a more pared-back look will be pleased to know that simple shiny gloss is making a comeback. While some more intense colours can age us by accentuating those fine lip lines, gloss will instead offer a more fresh and youthful finish.

However, it’s not all about slick and shiny lips. If you’re someone who loves to add a pop of colour, the ombre lip is a look for you to try. It doesn’t have to be as hard as it sounds – simply layer two different effects, such as a base of satiny lip colour, with a high-gloss colour in the centre.

Eyes
Getting your eyeliner wings perfect is the bane of every woman’s morning makeup routine, but keep practicing ladies, because eyeliner is still here to stay this season. Choose a shiny liquid liner to give your peepers an extra pop and keep those wings out for a bit of drama. Graphic lines are in for those brave enough for a bolder look.
Mascara, the makeup bag staple, comes with some subtle added drama this season. Keep an eye out for red shades on lashes, with mahogany mascara making a breakthrough entry into the scene.
Brows
Brows have certainly taken centre stage recently, with the return of darker, fuller, more natural shapes. While overdone, squared-off brows are out, a softer, straighter yet still full brow is in. Brows remain a feature that you want to embrace, so ditch the tweezers and get your hands on a soft brow pencil to fill in the gaps where needed.

Skin
After we’ve just spent the past year getting our head around blends, contours and highlights, this season’s trend will take us back to a more natural and simple skin coverage, with healthy, fresh and glowing skin with a touch of bronzer and cheek colour. With makeup toned down a little, stand-out accessories don’t dramatise your look so much, but a statement pair of sunglasses with your gorgeous glowing skin will still speak volumes.

Colour
Colour doesn’t completely disappear from this season’s makeup look, but it does go a little more monochromatic. The idea is to tie everything together, matching your blush, lip colour and eye colour using the same tones.

Metallic colours will also be blazing their way onto colour palettes, adding a pop of glimmer and glam to lips and eyelids for those who really want to shine in 2017. Team with some silver or gold accessories, add an extra hint of shine with a pair of metallic shoes.
The best part about this season’s beauty trends? You don’t have to be a pro with the makeup brushes and sponges to make it all work.
So what do you think, will you stick with simple or glam up with a bit of glitter this winter?
