Artist Profile

After studying textiles at Winchester and the Royal College of Art in London, Chris was head-hunted to go and work for American designer Ken Scott in Milan in 1972. The right place at the right time, “The Italian look” was the cornerstone of fashion in the 70s: After going freelance, he worked with all the big names designing fashion prints and a worldwide fashion clientele. He came to Australia in 1984 to be the design director of Sheridan. Again, designing textiles but for the home. Although he had hand-painted patterns by hand (pre- computer-generated designs), it wasn’t until the mid 90’s that he started painting canvases. Several sell-out exhibitions in Sydney, featuring mainly floral and natural scenes popularized his work. Chris’s work is detailed and colorful, many of the techniques used in textiles, balance distribution of motifs, and use of light and dark are used in his paintings. The print collection featuring Australian themes is his latest venture.
